Talk:Main Page
From Capper Wiki
Categories
What about a category for Capping-Related Websites or Caption Archives? (Which I would restrict to capping-related, not personal blogs, etc, but that's just me.)

Sounds like a plan. I'd think our rough tree would go something like (note, these names aren't written in stone)
|- Caption Gallery
|
Capper Website - - - |- Personal Page
|
|- General Caption Site
Capping Venue
Note, that all the subcategories of Capper Website would be pages run by cappers. Most pages in the Capping Venue category would be in the top level of Capper Website and in the seperate category of
Capping Venue. The one(s) not run by cappers (eg Caption This! would only be in Capping Venue.
One of the pros of doing a category like this is that it allows us to only have the url for a site in one place instead of lets say on the personal page of the maintainer and lets say a list of caption galleries. The drawback is that it would probably need a template and a bot if we wanted to list all the links on one page.

I had wondered how we were going to handle that. I pondered a links page but decided it was too non-specific. While we do have a definition page for Caption Gallery, there is no central page or category. There's links abound on profiles, etc. But I agree, we definitely need a section devoted to this. My only concern is why it wasn't thought of before? F-ing cappers . . . ;) Let's run with Gerson's model. It makes sense. Arch 14:13, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Adding top level categories
As an expirement, I've made it possible to add links on the front page by editing the Menu template. These links will show up on the top and the bottom of the main page (though possibly not immediately). Since this is an experiment done on my own iniative, hoping to allow people to find new areas to expand on, I'll make the following caveats:
ANY vandalism to this template will cause it to be locked so only admins can edit it. Pages added to the menu may eventually get demoted off the front page. It couldn't hurt to discuss any new pages here before adding them to them to the menu. Changes may not always show on the front page instantaneously.
